Review of Unigroup Relocation Japan in Tokyo, Japan by Joseph, Jonathan Gareth 03 Aug 2015, 11:08
Unigroup engaged a third party VISA application company, which caused uncertainty on who was managing the process and also delays. We liaised with four contacts at Unigroup throughout the process, UK, Hong Kong, Singapore and finally Japan (our destination). This led to misleading information being given on the documentation required for customs clearance! Only by validating data with the third party did we begin to get a consluive picture we could trust. Before shipping, the surveyor, gave incorrect information in Hong Kong on what was not allowed to be shipped, I personally checked their instructions against the customs regulations myself. ( i got the feeling they refused everything that would cause customs inconvenience for them if shipped, even though we were entitiled to do so).
Packing was very good until we discovered some damage to furnitue that must have been done whilst dismantling at origin. Unigroup in Japan were superb, thankfully. Helpful, accurate in information. The guys that delivered the furntiture were punctual, efficient and very caring. We finally arrived at our destination, exhausted and pleased it was all over.
Key learnings, get one contact as close to the source as possible, double check information from Unigroup if it sounds odd and make sure you check customs regulations yourself.
